Safety relays are used to build circuits that protect electrical and electronic devices and their users. These are elements with a specific design and high parameters, which is perfectly illustrated by the characteristics of Panasonic products.
The failure of components whose role is protection and ensuring safety can have disastrous consequences. When choosing such products, the most important factors should always be quality and durability. The safety relays presented below by Panasonic are known for their reliability, which is why they are so often chosen by manufacturers of various devices: from consumer electronics and computers to industrial machines. At the same time, these are small, low-profile elements with a wide range of electrical parameters, which further expands their potential applications. It is also worth noting that most of the solutions described here from the Japanese manufacturer can be purchased directly from TME warehouses, minimizing the risk of production halts due to delays in supply chains.
Safety relays
Recommended relay series
The key series of Panasonic safety relays are SF2D, SF4D, SFN4D, and SF-M. Their design is distinguished by compact body dimensions (especially the low profile, e.g., 7.8mm) and forced contact guidance. This second feature is particularly important and specific for protective elements: it means that even in the event of a pair of contacts fusing due to arcing or overheating, the opposite connection remains open (pairs NC+NO). This design complies with the standards EN50205 and IEC61810.
The parameters of the relays meet the requirements encountered in various types of circuits. The coils are operated with voltages from 3V to 60V DC (depending on the model), while the contacts allow for currents up to 6A. Since relays will be used in most applications to protect devices/elements powered from the mains, the maximum switched voltage reaches 250V AC (500V AC/DC for SFN4D-DC12V/24V). Another advantage of Panasonic solutions is their wide thermal tolerance (in most cases, ranging from -25°C to 85°C). It is also worth noting that the manufacturer estimates the lifespan of these products at 1,000,000 cycles.

The parameters of Panasonic relays and their design allow them to be used in many different applications, both in consumer devices (audio/video and home appliances) and in industrial machines (robotics and automation). Since they come in low-voltage versions and are characterized by low power consumption (e.g., 270mW), they can be used in devices controlled by microcontrollers and other logic systems. This allows their implementation in products such as programmable logic controllers (PLC).
